The Adirondacks bloom with flowers in the spring, crowds flock to their lakes in the summer, and their fall foliage is known around the world. However, one of the most special times of year in the North Country is winter. When the buildings are glowing with warm fires and holiday lights, and the lakes are frozen over to be walked across by those brave enough. Use this guide to have a winter so sweet that you’ll be wishing the snow wouldn’t melt!

The Towns to Visit:

This time of year often brings a slow down, a sort of cozy hibernation before the spring. However these North Country towns are still bursting with life and adventure for those who seek it out.

Lake George – The Village of Lake George is often packed with people in the summer months, but it also transforms into a holiday dream world this time of year. With ice rinks, light displays, and cozy restaurants, winter is a great time to experience Lake George without all the crowds.

Historically, this time of year was known as the ‘Winter Quarters’ for armies in the 18th century. Fort Ticonderoga keeps history alive by offering historical lessons, crafting classes for historical garbs, and of course gorgeous views of Lake Champlain.
